Life is a web of countless unexpected events, which intertwine and intertwine. And so are the successes and failures in all our activities, even if in retrospect we tend to tell them as if they stemmed from a clear causal development that led to them.
 The desire to find a single, ordered logic for all things, and hence certainty, order, and stability, is deeply rooted in the human soul. Humans have always longed for such an ordered logic that would protect them from the complexity, transience, and surprises that lurk in the twists and turns of life.
 Most of us have this tendency that I call the tendency toward hedgehogism, and through the old-new metaphor of the hedgehog and the fox, I distinguish between it and another perception of life - the fox.
 The hedgehog is looking for a higher being to teach him how to live the "right life." Hedgehogs expect to receive the answers from the rabbi, the leader, or the CEO, and some seek them in sacred texts, scientific theories, or the sayings of philosophers, writers, and celebrities.
 Until the 20th century, most changes occurred within the boundaries of the known reality and human progress was largely focused on improving the existing. In such a reality, hedgehog thinking and behavior played a major role in advancing man and society.
 But in the reality of life in the 21st century, where rapid 'fundamental changes' are occurring, this hedgehog mentality fails us. We need to adopt a different perception of reality - a reality that is in constant motion and change. In order to understand it and formulate new ways of acting that are appropriate to it, we are required to activate a special type of intelligence - 'fox intelligence' and through it to reshape our paths of action.
 Any dichotomous division between hedgehogs and foxes can be misleading. The skills of hedgehogs and foxes are present in all of us, although in different personal doses and with different qualities at different ages.
 You, the reader, also have fox skills hidden within you, but you do not activate them or strengthen them because you have been accustomed and educated primarily to activate your hedgehog skills. This book is intended to awaken the dormant fox in you and help you strengthen and cultivate it.
